Buying a penthouse in Casares

Low-rise buildings dominate the Casares coast, and the penthouse is the stand-out home in each block: the only one with no neighbours above and the largest terrace. The offer is split between Casares Playa, with complexes by the sand such as Perla de la Bahía, and the hillside communities by the Doña Julia and Casares Costa golf courses, with views of the course, the sea and the mountains.

The typical penthouse has two or three bedrooms and around 111 m² of built area, but what defines it is the outdoor space: terraces that wrap around the home and, in duplex units, a rooftop solarium. It suits buyers who spend long seasons here and want to live outdoors, and those who want the privacy of a house with the facilities of a community. Some are advertised with a tourist licence: in that case, confirm the property is registered with the Registro de Turismo de Andalucía and that the community allows holiday lets.

The coastline here faces south-east: south- and south-east-facing terraces get the morning sun and look straight out to sea, while west-facing ones catch the sunset over the mountains and get hotter on summer afternoons. Also check that there is a lift and that a parking space is included. Estepona is about fifteen minutes away and Marbella around forty.
