Buying a townhouse in Fuengirola

In Fuengirola a townhouse is the middle ground between a flat and a villa: a house of your own, with a terrace or garden, in a town dominated by apartments. A good part of the offer is in Torreblanca, in small gated communities stepped up the hillside, with a shared pool and views over the bay, such as those in Torreblanca del Sol. Los Pacos, a quiet residential area inland; Los Boliches, with terraced houses a few streets from the beach; and El Coto, on the Mijas hills looking over Fuengirola, complete the picture.

Most are two- or three-storey houses with around 170 m² of built area, often with a basement or garage, and a plot of around 160 m² split between garden, patio and terraces. Three or four bedrooms are the norm. Of the 42 homes, 19 are semi-detached, joined to just one neighbour and with a little more garden. There are 15 with a private pool. They appeal mainly to families living here all year and to buyers who want space without the chores of a villa.

Before deciding, walk the house from top to bottom: several floors weigh more with the years, so a ground-floor bedroom is a plus if you plan to stay long. From lower Torreblanca and Los Boliches you can walk to the beach and the train; in the upper communities and El Coto you will want a car and a parking space.
