Buying a townhouse in Marbella

In Marbella, a townhouse is the middle ground between an apartment and a villa: more space, terraces on several levels and often a small garden, in communities that look after the pool and grounds. Nueva Andalucía has the widest choice, among the Aloha, Los Naranjos and Las Brisas golf courses; next come the Golden Mile, with Nagüeles and Sierra Blanca, San Pedro de Alcántara and Santa Clara, by its golf course east of the town centre.

Most are three- or four-bedroom homes over several floors, with around 200 m² of built area, a solarium or terraces and a small garden on a plot of about 109 m². 72 of the 322 have a private pool. 99 are semi-detached, sharing just one wall with the house next door. They suit families who live here all year and buyers wanting a low-maintenance base for long stays. Count the stairs —with a basement and solarium, some have four levels— and check whether parking is private or communal.

Townhouses in Nueva Andalucía look onto the golf, five minutes from Puerto Banús; those in Nagüeles and along the Golden Mile are close to the sea and the centre; and Guadalmina Alta has gated complexes such as Isla de Guadalmina, with the shops of San Pedro de Alcántara nearby. There are beachside options too, in areas such as Río Verde Playa on the Golden Mile or Bahía de Marbella in Marbella East.
