Buying a villa in Mijas Costa

Mijas Costa is the coastal strip of the municipality, from the Fuengirola boundary to Calahonda. This page brings together the villas listed simply as Mijas Costa, without a specific urbanisation, and a good share sit at the eastern end: established neighbourhoods next to Fuengirola, such as the El Castillo area or Las Farolas, homes set above El Chaparral beach, and areas a little further inland, such as Campo Mijas, Lagarejo or Cerros del Águila.

The typical villa has four or five bedrooms and around 382 m² of built area on a plot of about 874 m², with a garden and, in 23 of the 25 cases, a private pool. Many are a few decades old, either renovated or ready for an update, and often on open residential streets rather than in gated communities. Some are advertised with a tourist licence; if you plan to let, check that the registration with the Andalusian Tourism Register is valid. They suit families who live here all year and buyers who want to walk to the beach.

The big advantage of the area is proximity: central Fuengirola, with its promenade, shops, schools and commuter train station, is a few minutes away, and the beach is a stroll or a short drive from most villas. Málaga airport is about twenty-five minutes by motorway, and Marbella about the same. In exchange, plots near the coast tend to be smaller than in the hills, and there is more traffic in summer.
