Buying a villa in Benalmádena

In Benalmádena, villas occupy the upper half of the municipality and a few corners of the coast. By the sea, Torremuelle stands out: a quiet community of houses with gardens at the western end, with its own train stop. In the hills, La Capellanía and El Retamar gather spacious villas on slopes facing the sea, and the area around the Buddhist Stupa (Estupa de la Iluminación) adds recent homes with views over the bay. Torrequebrada and the outskirts of Arroyo de la Miel complete the offer.

These are large homes: a typical villa offers some 357 m² of built area on a plot of roughly 963 m², with four or five bedrooms, and 89 of them have their own pool. Older villas renovated from top to bottom —sometimes with a separate guest apartment— sit alongside brand-new contemporary designs. 80 enjoy sea views. Buyers are families and residents who want space and privacy a quarter of an hour from the airport.

On such a steep hillside the plot matters as much as the house: check the gradient, access and parking, the state of the retaining walls and drainage, and that the built area, the pool and any annexes are properly declared. From La Capellanía or the Pueblo it is about ten minutes’ drive down to Arroyo de la Miel and the coast; Torremuelle, by contrast, keeps you close to the sea and to Carvajal, already in Fuengirola.
