Buying an apartment in Torremolinos

Torremolinos was one of the first holiday resorts on the coast and keeps that urban character: it is a town of apartments, right next to Málaga and a few minutes from the airport. Each neighbourhood offers a different kind of flat: 1960s and 1970s buildings in the centre, around Calle San Miguel and above El Bajondillo beach; fishermen’s houses and low-rise blocks in La Carihuela; seafront towers in Playamar and Los Álamos; and quieter complexes in Montemar, El Pinillo and La Colina.

Three-bedroom flats are the most common here, ahead of two-bedroom ones, with around 101 m² of built area; there are also studios and one-bedroom apartments, often bought as second homes. 69 of the 126 flats look out over the Mediterranean. Many buildings are decades old, so check the lift, the façade and the installations, and ask whether the community has approved works or levies. Buyers range from people working in Málaga who want the beach nearby to Europeans who spend the winter here.

Connections are the big draw: the airport is about seven kilometres away, and the commuter train crosses the town with stops at Montemar Alto, the centre, La Colina and Los Álamos, reaching central Málaga in around twenty minutes. If you are considering holiday letting, check the community rules and the town hall’s regulations first, and make sure the flat meets the requirements to be entered in the Andalusian Tourism Register.
