Buying an apartment in Benahavís

Benahavís has no beach, but the south of the municipality runs almost down to the coast between Marbella and Estepona, and that is where, on the hills, its apartments are. Nearly all of them sit in golf communities: La Quinta, on the border with Nueva Andalucía; Los Arqueros, around the course designed by Seve Ballesteros off the Ronda road; Los Flamingos, close to the motorway; and complexes such as Capanes del Golf, Parque Botánico, Atalaya Hills and those of El Paraíso.

Expect around 125 m² of built area, two or three bedrooms and a large terrace, because people buy here for the light and the view; ground-floor units with their own gardens and penthouses complete the offer. Buyers include golfers, northern Europeans who spend long seasons here and residents looking for calm about ten minutes from the beach. Right now 194 of the 330 listed have sea views. Bear in mind that almost everything here is done by car, and that community fees vary widely depending on gardens, security and pools.

Each area has its own character: La Quinta, the area with the largest offer, is about ten minutes from Puerto Banús and the services of Nueva Andalucía; Los Arqueros is more secluded, ten minutes from San Pedro de Alcántara; and Los Flamingos and El Paraíso lie by the motorway, close to Estepona and the New Golden Mile. Málaga airport is around fifty minutes away.
