Vélez-Málaga brings together very different houses within a single municipality. In the old town, below the Moorish fortress, there are two- and three-storey village houses, some in need of renovation; on the coast, between Benajarafe, Valle-Niza, Almayate, Torre del Mar and Caleta de Vélez, villas, townhouses and semi-detached homes a short distance from the beach; and inland, in hamlets such as Cajiz, Triana or El Trapiche, fincas and country houses among tropical fruit orchards, olive and almond trees.

Three or four bedrooms, around 271 m² of built area and a plot of about 842 m² are the norm. The sea is visible from 29 of the 56 houses. 26 have a private pool. Town houses to renovate sit alongside luxury villas on the hills above Torre del Mar. In the old town and in the countryside, take time to check the condition of the building, whether extensions are legal and, on fincas, the irrigation water, a highly valued resource in the Axarquía.

Torre del Mar is the hub of coastal life, with a seafront promenade, shops and year-round services; the town of Vélez-Málaga, about five minutes inland, has the local administration and the main services for the district. The inland hamlets are ten to twenty minutes from the beach along country roads, and the A-7 motorway links the whole coast with Málaga.
