Buying a house in Málaga

Málaga is a city of flats, but its municipal area is large and has every kind of house. In the east, between El Limonar, Pinares de San Antón, Cerrado de Calderón and El Candado, are the villas with views over the bay; in the centre and neighbourhoods such as La Trinidad or Pedregalejo, traditional terraced houses; in Churriana, townhouses and villas next to the airport; and in the countryside of Campanillas, Santa Rosalía or Puerto de la Torre, fincas and cortijos with vegetable gardens, fruit trees or olives.

A typical house is around 300 m² of built area on a plot of about 941 m², most often with four bedrooms. From 41 of the 115 you can see the sea. 50 have their own pool. The range is wide: from neighbourhood houses to renovate up to luxury villas worth several million euros in Parque Clavero. It is a good option for families who want to live in the city all year and for anyone who values having the airport, the high-speed train and Málaga’s cultural life close at hand.

The east and Churriana have schools, shops and the centre fifteen to twenty minutes away, while the fincas to the north offer space and privacy but mean driving everywhere. With a country house, check that the building is registered and legal, where the water comes from, whether there is mains drainage or a septic tank, and the state of the access track.

Before buying, check the planning status of the house with the town hall and the Land Registry; at EVS we help you gather that paperwork.
