Buying a villa in Málaga

Villas are relatively scarce within the city limits of Málaga and concentrate in a handful of areas. The best known is the east of the city: the hills above El Limonar, Pinares de San Antón, Cerrado de Calderón, Parque Clavero and El Candado, with large houses, gardens and views over the bay a few minutes from the centre and the beaches of El Palo. To the west, Churriana offers villas in a quiet setting near the airport, while to the north Puerto de la Torre and Campanillas have houses with a more rural feel.

A typical villa here has 355 m² of built area on a plot of around 942 m²; there is a private pool at 39 of the 56. Four- and five-bedroom homes are the norm, some with a separate guest apartment, designed for families who live in the city all year round. 27 of them enjoy sea views. When buying, check the access —some streets on the eastern hills are very steep—, the orientation and the condition of retaining walls and banks on sloping plots.

The east holds most of the offer: from Cerrado de Calderón or El Candado it is about fifteen minutes to the centre and twenty-five to the airport. Churriana is five minutes from the airport and close to the beaches of Torremolinos, while Puerto de la Torre and Campanillas —home to the Andalusia Technology Park— offer plots in quieter areas, about twenty minutes from the centre.
